No label movement: Love NY Project
The "Love NY Project" by No Label Movement is led by a NY based fashion designer looking to cast a beacon of belonging and acceptance. Having lived across the country, the client wanted to share his found home with the world. This collection of clothing is meant to clearly communicate two main things: There is a place where you are loved and that it can be found in New York.
Working with my client, we settled on these final designs that incorporated all the desired elements for this project. Focusing on simple, recognizable iconography allowed me to tie the client's message of community and connection to a beloved New York image. The client's inclusion of the client's preexisting logo was another challenge but payed off well in the final results. This added layer of brand association further linked the clients message to the audience he was trying to reach.
Both the client and I were very pleased with the final product. The graphics read clearly and effectively translated onto wearable mediums. The client was able to use my design set on multiple garments across the whole collection. Contributing to this collective was very rewarding in terms of not only expanding my own community, but also helping another one grow.
Crypt & Wick:
handmade candles
Crypt & Wick is a small, self-started candle making business that was looking for a way to stand out to online shoppers. The client wanted a gothic aesthetic that could have modular elements for varying scents. They also asked that the final design be illustrative and lean into being hand-drawn. Finally, they asked that I incorporate roses in the base design to go along with the rose blossom shaped candles that they sell.
Because the client had a clear vision of what they wanted their brand to be, I was able to put most of my attention on creating a detailed, polished final product. I worked with the client to find a style that would suit this vision and stand out in the online market. Though this design was a bit of an exploration for me, I'm happy with the final product and am exciting to continue working on designs for this brand.
Ellie & Ryan:
Wedding Matchbooks
For this project, a soon-to-wed couple was looking to have custom matchbook designs for their cigar bar. The bride and groom were from Pittsburgh and Buffalo, respectively. I wanted to do something special for each of their home towns while also showing the union that they'd soon share. This project was small but still held its challenges. The size constraints made me think much more about my line choices and composition.
I had a lot of fun making these designs and just as much freedom. For the bride, I placed her on the 10th Street Bridge, where she would commute to work every day. The groom, being a Buffalo Bills fan, was thrilled to see his cartoon-self preparing to destroy a folding table. The final design, which was to be printed on the back of the first two, is to show both families shedding their regional dialect, for a moment, to celebrate the joining of two worlds. I was glad to hear that my designs made their special day just a bit more special.
